About John

John Duncan was first elected as a Member of Parliament in 1993, and was re-elected in 1997, 2000 and 2004.  After a narrow loss in the 2006 election John was returned to Parliament in October, 2008.

Prior to 2006 John served as an Opposition MP and held several senior critic portfolios, including  International Trade, Natural Resources and Indian Affairs and Northern Development.

In 2006, John worked as the Pacific Region Advisor to the Minister of Fisheries.

After being re-elected in 2008 John was made Parliamentary Secretary for Indian and Northern Affairs.

Prior to entering politics John worked in the coastal forest industry for more than 20 years.  In this time he lived and worked in many coastal communities and understands the unique benefits and challenges of coastal life.

John was born in Winnipeg, but raised in British Columbia.  He has a B.Sc.F. in forestry from the University of British Columbia.
